Coffee, Cake and Flying Machines

Planes…no trains or automobiles but great breakfasts, lunches and coffee at the coolest location.

You know when you find something that you really would rather keep as a secret for yourself but also want to shout from the rooftops about? That happened this week when we went to the newly opened Pilot’s Hub at Redhill Aerodrome on Sunday for breakfast.

The fabulous hang out, Pilot’s Hub is located in ‘Hanger 9’ on the aerodrome. The address alone lends itself to a Bruce Willis action movie…coming soon, the blockbuster ‘HANGER 9’. No Bruce Willis to be found (shame) but charming staff in an exceptionally lovely, warm and friendly ‘hut’, decked out in a delightful 1930’s aviation theme with terrific memorabilia scattered about and adorning the walls. Great attention to detail and well thought out.

What’s on the menu? The Pilot’s Hub serves superb quality homemade food with virtually everything down to the cakes and chutneys freshly made on the premises. As well as enough cakes to shake a Mary Berry book at there is an extensive enough menu including breakfasts, burgers and other ‘hot’ goodies without it being over loaded, including some really rather tasty sounding vegetarian options.

We plumped to have a breakfast each. I have to say it was really rather good, especially the sausage and black pudding. Both breakfasts came with toast and we were offered jam or marmalade too if we wished.

Personally, I can’t think of better way to eat breakfast looking out over the airfield, seeing and hearing the aircraft coming in and out. There is also a smashing outside deck, that on a sunny day would just be a perfect spot to while away an hour. Even more so when The Pilot’s Hub will be serving beer and wine in the very near future.

Not only is it a treat to see the aircraft outside on the aerodrome, but through a side door of the ‘hut’ you can wander around ‘Hanger 9’. We were kindly shown around the aircraft by Richard, owner of The Pilot’s Hub and Hanger 9. Richard’s enthusiasm for The Pilot’s Hub, flying and the aircraft surrounding us was contagious.

I wholeheartedly recommend paying a visit, enjoy the food and soak up the atmosphere, with sunshine beaming through the windows, papers and free wifi, what’s not to like?

But of course, shhhh, don’t tell anyone, it’s our little secret, right?
