Sumer Is Icumen In with Artisan Gin

Summer CupFor those not familiar with the oldest known 13th Century musical composition “Sumer Is Icumen In“, the title meaning “Summer Has Come In” or “Summer Has Arrived”, this is what I felt when sipping on Sipsmith Summer Cup. Throw out your Pimm’s and grab a bottle of this.

It’s a beautiful, light & fruity summer cup when mixed with three parts lemonade, ice and a slice. I guarantee if you serve this up at your summer gatherings you will be very popular.

Based on Sipsmith‘s award winning London Dry Gin, it is then blended with a host of carefully selected summery ingredients including infusions of three of my favourite flavours, Earl Grey tea, Lemon Verbena and Cucumber. Aromatic yet surprisingly dry and darn delicious.

Sipsmith were the first copper distillery in London for 200 years, launched by old friends Sam Galsworthy and Fairfax Hall and benefiting from having Jarred Brown, drinks and spirits historian extraordinaire as their Master Distiller.

But that is not all from this new darling of distillers who are only five years old and producing the finest gin from their copper ‘Prudence’. All hand crafted in small batches of fewer than 300 bottles Sipsmith produce the smoothest of gins along with a beautifully mellow Barley Vodka, the ideal base for any drink and equally delicious neat. If you have a sweeter tooth head for both the Sloe Gin and Damson Vodka and for a real juniper gin kick try the V.J.O.P.

And why Sipsmith? Well according to the team they call themselves “sip-smiths” to celebrate the craft of distillation and their artisan methods. If you want to find out more about Artisan Gin, you can visit the Sipsmith distillery, check out the beauty of ‘Prudence’, marvel at her talents and of course taste it all for yourself.
