A Bit of a Serbian Day

AyvarRoasted Red Peppers the Balkan Way

Life is full of coincidences we are told and we experience many.

Today I received from Granny’s Secret a jar of Ayvar in the post today for me to try and to let people know what I think. I will let you know what I think of Granny’s Secret’s ayvar once I’ve broken the seal.

Ayvar (spelled slightly differently in varying Balkan countries) is a Balkan roasted red pepper spread and the one I received today is from Serbia. We’ve all had roasted pepper sauces I know, but I was particularly keen to try this as I was lucky enough to eat homemade ayvar when I was in north west Bosnia & Herzegovina in October of last year.

Here is a video of my hosts, Holiday in Bosnia, making Ayvar, spelled Ajvar in the region where they are. You may just want to book up some time to visit just to taste some…it’s worth it:

Kevin ShannonWalking Across Serbia – #WalkSerbia

As I was taking the photograph of my treat in store and about to upload it onto twitter, I spotted that, David Bailey, An Englishman in the Balkans had uploaded an interview that he had just done with Kevin Shannon. Kevin is a bit of an adventurer and is currently walking across Serbia, with his rucksack and tent. The country side and culture is a little different from his homeland of Cheshire, UK. Here’s Kevin chatting to David about his latest adventure #WalkSerbia. You can find out more about Kevin at becauseitisthere.co.uk
