Reigate Town Centre Closed

Road closure signsTalk about alarmist signs! Signs like this one on the right have been popping up around Reigate stating that Reigate Town Centre will be closed for a month between eight o’clock at night and six o’clock in the morning.

First things first though. One would have thought that Surrey would be spelled properly on the sign and thank the Lord that the ‘o’ isn’t missing as well as the ‘y’ in ‘County’!

All in all a rather misleading sign as there are to be resurfacing works carried out throughout Reigate over the period 22nd Apr-23rd May. But where are these taking place, when are they taking place, what are the diversions, will this affect my business, will I be able to get home from work? Many questions I have heard from local folk and businesses over the weekend as there has been no clear communiqué from any public authority. I was told that businesses received a letter giving them a weeks notice of this happening. But of course businesses are not the only people who will be wanting to travel by car, lorry or van during these period.

Roadworks.orgYou can of course call the nice people at Surrey County Council on 0300 200 1003 to find out when the works are happening and how, if at all, it will effect you. I duly did this, though it appeared the chap I was talking to didn’t quite understand the difference between Church Street and the High Street, so getting clear information from the horses mouth still proved a little confusing though he did tell me that it was indicated that they were whole road closures, not partial. So when they close part of Reigate Hill, having Motorway traffic coupled with the railway crossing AND diversions, it’s not going to be much of a party!.

You can check to see when work is going to be carried out near you by either visiting the County Council website here or by going to roadworks.org to find out all current and planned roadworks across the UK.

Roads affected in this batch of roadworks for Reigate are Bancroft Road, Bell Street, Church Street, Crescent Road, High Street, London Road and Reigate Hill.

I wonder if Surrey County Council have issued residents in those areas with ear muffs?
